The real experience with this property is enjoyed on the outside, and you and your guests can spend
all day relaxing and exploring the property. It is truly serene and peaceful. With that said, the house
itself is comfortable and nicely set to allow everybody their own space.
The location is also ideal for visiting downtown Washington DC or Baltimore (about a 45-minute
drive to each). Downtown Urbana is only 5 minutes away and offers many dining options and a large
full-service grocery store. Downtown Frederick is about 10 minutes away and has plenty of great
restaurants, antiquing, and lots to do. There are multiple great golf courses and breweries within a
few minutes’ drive. There is also a rodeo in Johnsonville about 25 minutes away.
The kitchen is completely modern with all new appliances installed in 2017. New granite counters,
flooring, and painting were completed in 2019. The kitchen is stocked with just about every item you
would want in a kitchen. There are also two grills at the house (charcoal and propane)
The upper deck, large, screened porch, fire pit, and patio areas all provide unique gathering areas.
The farm has goats, ducks, geese, chickens, cats, and horses.
There are 2 stocked ponds (large-mouth bass, blue gill, catfish, and crappie). Fishing is allowed
without a special permit or MD license, although bass is catch-and-release only. Swimming is
allowed in the upper pond.
Words cannot describe how nice this property really is. The farm sleeps 14 easily, and the finished
attic can sleep multiple kids.
There are 4 bedrooms Upstairs -
1 room with a king-size bed
1 room with 3 twin beds
2 rooms with queen-size beds (1 in each room)
A large, finished attic will easily sleep a group of kids (we provide 2 queen-size bean bag beds and
an air mattress if requested). These can also be set up on the floor of one of the other rooms.
There is also a queen-size futon mattress (upstairs) in the common area.
The house has 2 smart TVs. One TV is in the downstairs living room, and one is in the attic (in the
space we created specifically for kids to hang out in). The house also has Comcast cable TV, a DVD
player, and very strong wireless access.
The main structure of the house is more than 200 years old, built from chestnut logs, and the logs
have been exposed to help add to the charm and history of the property. There is a small stone
building on the property that originally functioned as a smokehouse and living quarters for farm help.
There are 2 full baths inside the farmhouse, and a large outdoor bath with a shower in the adjacent
old dairy barn.
We also completed an outdoor shower with hot/cold water** (seasonal availability)
The house has modern plumbing, a full set of new kitchen appliances, and a full-size washer/dryer. 3
wood stoves add to the charm and experience of the property.
*** Firewood for both the house and the fire pit is included in the cost of the rental.
*** Note - The upper bathroom is attached to a bedroom, so anyone using the upper bathroom will
have to go through the bedroom for access. Please think about whether this will work for your
guests. Both bathrooms are on the same side of the house (above each other). The lower bathroom
is attached to the kitchen. The Dairy Barn bathroom is a short walk across the drive and is very nice.
*** There used to be a hot tub on the property, and some of the older reviews refer to the hot tub, but
we retired it many years ago, and there is no longer a hot tub on the property.**
