The space
The house, with ample front and back yards, is set back from a busy road. A sidewalk provides easy access to the center of town and Weaver Street Market.
Our house is cozy and compact and particularly suited for people who enjoy and appreciate unique period homes.
We worked with a local Carrboro architect to make the house flow better, but kept all the original features of the home - kitchen, hardwood flooring, the exterior shell.
When you walk in, our spacious living and seating area is arranged for a comfortable conversations and equipped with a SmartTV.
Wi-fi is fast and complimentary.
Our living room flows to the kitchen and dining nook.
Kitchen is a period kitchen, painted and slightly modified to accommodate modern appliances: gas stove with a griddle, French door refrigerator with ice maker, Bosch 3-level dishwasher, and a stacked washer and dryer.
DeLonghi espresso maker, Keurig dual machine (K-cups and drip), French press, kettle, toaster, microwave, mixer, and German-made porcelain are provided. Coffees and teas are complimentary and we strive to provide highest quality and organic ingredients.
The master bedroom houses a California King bed with Helix Lux Midnight mattress; according to many reviews the most comfortable mattress in the market.
The master also has a built-in closet and the main door has a built-in full-length mirror. En-suite has a walk-in shower.
The second bedroom has a firm California King bed with a firm Helix mattress and a closet with built-ins.
The third, and the smallest bedroom, has a queen bed with a firm Helix mattress. It also contains a built-in office nook. Smart TV is provided and can also be used as a large work screen. The built-in closet contains childrens' toys, books and a toddler potty that doubles as a stool.
Floyd sofa and another MCM sofa are located in the living room for your seating enjoyment and so are the two single beds that stack into a daybed and can be used either as regular seating or as additional beds.
Main hallway bath has a Japanese soaking tub designed for full submersion and is well suited for tall people. The bath also contains a walk-in shower.
We offer a 220V EV plug and the free town charge station is 3 minutes away. Carrboro recently installed a fast charger at Carrboro Plaza although it is not free. It is in the vicinity of several local businesses including Food Lion and ABC Store that has an outstanding selection of high-quality liquor (we've sampled a ton of liquor in the early days of this pandemic and happy to offer recommendations if you enjoy fine liquor as much as we do or just want to try something new!).
Front and back yards are large; we do not use pesticides or insecticides as we enjoy pollinators visiting. The yard is overflowing with fireflies starting in the early summer. There's also an eagle, a herd of deer, an animal in the otter family, and bunnies frequently visiting the backyard. Out kids LOVED playing by the neighboring creek.
Guest access
Home, driveway, and backyard are available for guest use. Adirondack seating is provided in the backyard.
Other things to note
We are located in the humid subtropical climate with a thriving insect and the wildlife community, and Carrboro is a bee-friendly town.
We do not spray RoundUp, insecticides, or pesticides in or around the house but use boric tablets and eco-friendly bug repellants to keep the bugs away. We don't regrass our yard but instead let the wildflowers grow alongside the grass that was present when we bought the house.
Pollinators are frequent in our yard, and you can see hundreds of fireflies in the summer.
Palmetto Bugs, spiders, millipedes, centipedes, bees, flies, mosquitos, and ants are all common. You can also sight eagles, cardinals, a variety of other birds, rabbits, deer, bees, even something related to a capybara family in the backyard since there's a creek right next to the property.
Raleigh is #1 city in the country for snake bites so always watch your step as this entire area has a huge population of Copperhead snakes; it is a pit viper that will send you to hospital for treatment. We have never seen any in our yard and cut the lawn to keep it clear of snakes.
Camera disclosures: Blink smart doorbell and camera system at the front door and three more Blink cameras: one on the magnolia tree monitoring portion of the backyard, one on the back porch; and the final one pointed toward the neighboring creek. We primarily use the cameras to monitor the property when out of town.
